Joceyln Worrall grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with a BFA in Textile Design.
After college, she moved to New York City and worked for 8 years as a textile designer. Her first job was designing fabrics for menswear and womenswear, woven at a mill in Inchinomiya, Japan. She wanted to pursue jacquard design so she went to work for Scalamandre, an old New York high-end mill producing silk jacquards on looms from 1900. Lastly, she worked at a boutique jacquard mill that developed fabrics for compnies like Donghia, Jack Lenor Larson, and Brunschwig & Fils.
She slowly transitioned from textile design to working as a freelance costume designer, designing costumes for NY downtown theatre and working as a costume designer and wardrobe stylist for the television and film industry.
She began to work on projects for Martha Stewart Living, mostly sewing and crafting for photo shoots for the magazine and holiday books. Eventually, she worked at the Martha Stewart TV Show full time for 2 years as a stylist, developing the craft/sewing projects, while taking time off for costume design projects.
In late 2002, she received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, for her work in theater as a costume designer. This award is given to 6 young theatre designers (costumes, set, lighting, sound) every year, through an organization called Theater Communications Group.
In late 2004, when she was 9 months pregnant, she was talked into playing "The Craft Lady of Steel" on a television pilot for the style network. Soon after having her baby, she used the sewing machine on materials like sprayed painted cheesecloth, wax paper and cabbage to make costume pieces. She loves to experiment with materials, sewing with unusual material, or taking an ordinary material and making it into something u usual. The book "Simple Gifts To Stitch," will be out in June 2007.
Currently, Jocelyn works as a prop stylist and craft stylist for television and print. Clents include Martha Stewart, Better Homes and Gardens, and Food Network. She is married to Jon Hokanson, a director of photography, and has a 2-year old son, Silas.
